The Saltillo FFA Chapter received it’s charter number 0698 in November 1949. Through the years it has seen the cotton fields disappear in the late 50’s. The dairy industry decline of the 90’s and the emergence of the poultry industry in the 90’s. The cow-calf producers are holding steady. In 1953 first two first two Lone Star Farmers from Saltillo were Arvis Gray and Johnny Mays. In 1970 a modern steel building with the first air conditioner on campus, replaced the old galvanized barn tin building. The year 1977 Barry Brewer became the first American Farmer from the chapter. In 1986 Cliff Neal a past chapter member served at the state president of the Texas Young Farmers. In 1994 the first team from the chapter to place at a state contest, was the eighth place agricultural mechanics team. 1999 saw the establishment of the Saltillo FFA website on the Internet. In 2002 another first occurred with the election of the first girl Amanda Collins to serve as chapter president.
